Below is the reference photo used for pencil (graphite stick) and wash painting.

Using a half sheet allows plenty of space for drawing and the first washes are applied with a view to designing the boundary shapes. Using an ordinary soft pencil for outline drawing and a little masking.

Second group of loose washes provide tree colours

Bright colours of clothes, horse flanks and faces

First application of graphite stick -some strong darks for the closer items.

Continue rendering with some line work on street objects

Finish with dappled shadows and varied line of tree foliage. Crop to create the varied edge of painting
