The drawing reminds the painter of the negative parts - the blooms, tree trunks - and the patterns created by the flowers.
First wash leaves the whites for the foreground blooms.

Background foliage painted wet in wet with colour variation from warm reds and purple to blues.

Tulip blooms painted first with dabs of yellow followed quickly by the bright red allowing to blend.

Flower stalks and leaves painted in one pass using already prepared cool greens and yellowy colours.

Tree trunks receive a cool wash and darker marks to represent gum tree varieties.

Finishing with a few twigs, more opaque colour on tulips keeping the size, shape and stance variation and faint washes over distant whites. Matted and signed - "Carpet of Tulips, Floriade".
