QAS February 2011 demonstration painting
Reference photo below is from the Adaminiby Race Day last year. The runners make a pleasant arrangement with the spacing of the groups and the splice of canola covered weeds in the background. We'll be doing a graphite stick and wash painting.

Drawn up with the groups arranged per the photo - forgotten to rub out the projection lines - important to vary the heights of the heads and the horse's hoofs.

First loose washes. Using a very soft smooth rag paper that absorbs the paint instantly - no chance of changing anything. Tried to create a varied edge to the perimeter and leave plenty of white openings to highlight the line work to come.

Individual colours of jockey silks taken straight from the tube.

Graphite stick creates the darks and line work to express the figures. Will look at again later to decide the crop, changes and signature.
